I have worked hard for eight years to earn your trust and confidence, and to address the concerns and interests of the families, communities, schools, businesses and non-profit organizations, as well as our senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the 22nd District.
I have been responsive to needs at home in our district and I’ve worked to be an effective legislator when at the Capitol in Harrisburg. I have been a tireless advocate for early childhood education; public education; and environmental protection. I’ve also been able to advance significant community and economic development projects throughout the region.
My Student Ambassadors program, now in its 6th year, has introduced bright young high school seniors from every school in my Senate District to the inner workings of state government. The program challenges these young men and women to understand and appreciate the complexity of public policy as well as the legislative process. It also provides a forum for these future leaders to clearly understand the nobility and responsibility of public service.
I have continuously supported career readiness and workforce development – advancing systemic change to better link our schools to the business community. These efforts will help meet current and future demands for skilled labor and ensure a more efficient transition from school to work for our students.
Working with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, we’ve incorporated proven career-path curriculum in our public schools to facilitate better choices by parents and students earlier in the academic process to ensure successful career development later. It is inexcusable for students or their families to incur stifling debt only to learn that upon graduation they cannot find jobs that pay a living wage with proper benefits.
My staff and I continue to work closely with local government officials who must deal with the everyday problems and challenges at their doorstep. Accordingly, each year of my time in office, we’ve hosted a local legislative breakfast to bring county representatives, municipal officials and school directors together to discuss the state budget and other state policies affecting them.
I have been a zealous advocate for state investment in my Senate District bringing state funds home for our infrastructure; schools; fire, police and emergency management equipment and vehicles; flood control and storm water management projects; arts and culture; and our health care and social service organizations.
I continue to adhere to my original platform when I first ran for this office, and my voting record and legislative achievements over the past 8 years provide ample proof of that.
My work ethic and voting record reflect the sensibilities and the expectations of the people I represent across the entire 22nd Senatorial District. I am deeply grateful for your past support and I sincerely hope you will allow me the privilege to continue to work for you in the Pennsylvania State Senate. I humbly request your vote so I can continue to serve you to the best of my ability.
